Dear Members,
ALC is beginning a new chapter of its life as the pandemic is fully in the rearview mirror. As we learn how to be God's Church in this new season, it would be helpful to have clarity in understanding our "why." Meaning, "why are we here? What is God's purpose for us?" That is only one of the reasons for taking a survey. Another reason is to see if leaders and staff are in sync with the congregation. A third reason is to understand the congregation's openness to change.
This survey is called "the vitality survey," and comes to us from the ELCA Division for Mission. Its purpose is to gather information about how we see ourselves as a congregation. It is a way to take our temperature. Numbers can help us learn about ourselves, and they also tell stories about our life together and our hope for the future. We need a minimum of 50 people to take the congregational vitality survey for the results to have significant meaning.
I, personally, invite you to take this survey.
After April 2, Pastor Troy Pfibsen from the SWMN Synod Office will download the results and make general comments. The church council will review the results and begin a process to share the results and begin conversations about our common ministry with the congregation. The survey is step one in a longer journey of exploring our future together.
How to take the survey:
Step 1: If there are others in your household and they did not receive a copy of this survey, forward this email to each confirmed member before you take the survey. Or have this individual(s) email me ([email protected]) and ask me to send them the survey link.
Step 2: If you do not need to forward this survey to anyone, click the link below, take the survey. Answer each question for the survey to be valid. Make your best guess.

If you have any questions or concerns or hear of any, please do not hesitate to contact me via phone, text, or email. I am looking forward to this process of learning about our congregation and the stories that emerge.
In Christ,
Pastor Anne Hokenstad,
Lead Pastor

- It is a tool to start a conversation.
- It takes a snapshot of the congregation.
- A survey helps leaders understand the perceptions of the congregation.
