Meet Our Staff

Gary Andersen
Lead Pastor
I was called to serve at American Lutheran in July 2012. A graduate of Luther Seminary, I have served congregations in Lakefield, MN, Rice Lake, WI, Bloomington, MN, and a brief interim period at Gaylord, MN. Prior to being called to ordained ministry, my first career was in small business in the area of publishing. My wife Diane and I have three adult children and seven grandchildren. Michelle and family live in Shakopee, MN; Tim and family live in Mullen, NE; and Jon and family live in Bellevue, NE. Together Diane and I enjoy spending time with family and especially spoiling the grandchildren. We also like camping, boating, bicycling and hiking. I also enjoy taking on home improvement projects.
Bailey Fossum
Associate Pastor
I joined American Lutheran as an Associate Pastor in January 2014 upon completing my studies at Luther Seminary. I felt the call to ministry during my college years at Augustana College and while serving as a summer staff member at Shetek Lutheran Ministries. Upon graduating Augustana I began my studies at Luther that fall with a focus in Children, Youth, and Family ministry. My husband Erik and I enjoy the great outdoors with fishing, camping, and traveling, but also love a good book and catching the latest movies and TV shows. We share our home with 2 cats, Kona and Bella.
Stacy Bickett
Youth Director
I have been working with youth and volunteers for over 25 years and joined the American Lutheran Ministry Team in September 2013.  My husband Tim and I have three children Kendrick, Emmett and Karissa and we enjoy spending time together as a family camping, playing games and volunteering.
Sylvia Anderson
Worship & Music Coordinator
I have been on staff at ALC since January 2007. I often assist other education opportunities. As worship/music coordinator, I work closely with the pastors to plan and organize the music components of the various worship services. I am part-time and can be found in the office most mornings and early afternoons. I grew up as a farm girl near Marion, SD, attended college at SDSU in Brookings, SD and have lived in Clark, SD, Canton, SD and now in Worthington, MN. I read to relax and want to travel more. My husband Michael and I have two grown children, Alex and Miranda. We also count numerous rescue cats as part of our family.
Cindy Ira-Smith
Faith Community Nurse
My husband and I moved to Worthington in October, 2014 from Northeast Iowa. I have been a nurse for over 37 years. I joined the staff at ALC October 2015. We have 2 children, both young adults. We became ‘empty nesters’ when we first moved here. My husband is the Pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church here in Worthington. We both enjoy music, we sing in the church choir, and have participated in other community choirs. My husband plays the tuba in the Worthington band. We both are avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fans. My other hobbies include reading, scrapbooking and playing games on the computer, and watching eagle cam nests, especially the one from Decorah, IA. We recently adopted a rescue dog, ‘Toby’.
